I am one of those people who have Lucid dreams quite frequently. I just usually don't remember them. This one is different though;
I was wandering in the woods and stumbled across an abandoned city complex. There were apartment buildings at least 7 stories tall, a shopping center with a small theater, all in the communist brutalism architectural style of '60s and '70s. It all felt off, yet welcoming and familiar. All the roads were overgrown with moss at that point since it must've been at least 30 years since anyone lived here by the looks of it. There was something really off about this place though; the power was still running and the floors inside of all the buildings had this futuristic style, yet overgrown, like it was laying there for ages.
"Huh, I don't remember this being here" I said to myself out loud, knowing that this area wasn't even on satellite maps I used to check for anything of interest here. In these parts of the mountains one tends to be alone for kilometers on end.
That's when I realized; I'm dreaming. Those floors are from Portal 2, no doubt because I was playing it before I went to bed, but for the city complex; I have no clue where my mind dug it from. Must've been from my early childhood memory since in the early 2000's everything looked like this, before Czechia joined EU and everything got enough budget to modernize.
So I knew I'm dreaming but I couldn't control my dream world, only my movement and decisions like in VR, so I decided to explore the area for a bit. It was a decently sized city complex spanning at least 2 kilometers in length and everything covered in a forest that looked like it was growing undisturbed for at least 60 years, which was odd but I won't complain since it created an amazing setting.
As I explored deeper into the place I started having the feeling that someone is watching me, which is never a good feeling to have in a dream. I tried to search for who could be looking at me but I haven't seen anybody. I've decided to ignore the feeling and walk deeper into the city complex. I arrived at a small square in front of a school looking building. That's when I saw her, my friend who died nearly a decade ago. She was 10 when she died and it was an anniversary of her passing recently, so she was on my mind a lot lately. I decided to try and talk with her.
"Hi Nat, long time no see."
"Hi. I guess, yeah, it's been a while." she replied.
"Do you wanna go for a walk? We can chat." I said, happy to see her, even if it was a dream.
"No we don't have time for that." she said with a sad tone in her voice. "Your alarm is gonna go off soon." She added.
That's when I heard it. Music, playing all around me. Hollywood's Bleeding by Post Malone, my alarm and everything started to fade away as I started waking up.
I woke up crying. I miss her so much.
Even the nicest dreams can hurt a lot.
